Two topics, one groan

Pun-Off

Make puns out of both topics. Say a topic word, sneak it inside another word, or swap in a word that sounds like it. Sneaky puns score more.

How to play Pun-Off

You get two topics and the word pool for each (below the topics). Type a pun that uses those words, press Pun it, and keep going until the 2-minute clock runs out. The clock starts with your first pun. Each pool word scores once per round.

StraightUse a pool word as is. “That was a stellar loaf.” “loaf” = 1 point per syllable.
Sound-alike +3A word that sounds like a pool word (a homophone or a close match). “I knead a vacation.” or “Give peas a chance.” The game listens for the sound, even across words: “lettuce pray”.
Hidden +2A pool word tucked inside a bigger word or across two words. “Talk about a marsupial” hides “mars”; “gal axe-y” hides “galaxy”.
Double meaning +2Words marked ⇄ have a second meaning. Use one in a pun that also touches the other topic: “The croissant was the star of the show.”
Near pun +1Close, but one vowel off: “Here comes the son.”
Combo +3 · Fused +7Hit both topics in one pun for a Combo. Get both topics into a single word (“moonloaf”) to Fuse.

Words marked ♪ have a known sound-alike. Highest score wins the day's leaderboard; your best puns can go on the Pun Board, and the first person to tell a pun gets the credit.
